Definition

Pregnancy has been confirmed and there is nausea, sickness or vomiting of liquid or food immediately after eating between weeks six and twelve.

Causes and Pathological Mechanisms

Morning sickness is a Stomach disorder, attributed to an uncontrolled uprising of Qi within the system. The causes are not clear, but it has been suggested that the symptoms may arise as a result of hormonal changes in early pregnancy, together with stress and/or over excitement. (The hormone in question is Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin, a hormone produced by the placenta. The detection of this hormone forms the basis of pregnancy tests).
