Definition

Diseases characterised by evidently increased amount of ud an l a and abnormal changes in colour, quality and smell with or without local and general symptoms.

Causes and Pathological Mechanisms

Dampness is the major cause. Most relevant Zang Fu organs are the Spleen and Kidney. Locations of the disease are the uterus and the front yin (genitals) and the core mechanism is Ren Mai injuries and Dai Mai loses control.

Patterns

Spleen Yang Deficiency

  • Symptoms: White or light yellow colour, thin quality, no smell, continuous, tired shen, lassitude, cool limbs, poor appetite, loose faeces, swollen feet, puffy and a pale face.
  • Tongue: Pale tongue with white and greasy coating
  • Pulse: Moderate and Weak
  • Treatment strategy: Strengthen spleen, tonify qi, lift yang and remove dampness
  • Formula: Wan Dai Tang
  • Acupoints:

Kidney Yang Deficiency

  • Symptoms: Clear, white colour, thin quality (like water), no smell, continuous dripping, dizziness and tinnitus, lower back pain as if broken, aversion to cold, cold limbs, cold feeling in Xiao Fu, frequent urination even more at night, loose faeces, dull and a dim face.
  • Tongue: Pale and moist tongue with thin white coating
  • Pulse: Deep, Thready and Slow
  • Treatment strategy: Warm kidney, tonify yang and harness essence to stop
  • Formula: Nei Bu Wan
  • Acupoints:

Yin Deficiency with Dampness

  • Symptoms: Yellow or mixed red and white colour, sticky, foul smell, dry or burning feeling in genital, achy and weak lower back and knees, dizziness and tinnitus, malar flush and red lips, hot feeling at 5 centres, insomnia with many dreams.
  • Tongue: Red tongue with little coating or with yellow and greasy coating
  • Pulse: Thready and Rapid
  • Treatment strategy: Nourish kidney yin, clear away heat and remove dampness
  • Formula: Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan
  • Acupoints:

Damp Heat Flowing Downwards

  • Symptoms: Yellow colour, thick quality, foul smell, itchy genital, vexation with chest distension, bitter mouth, dry throat, poor appetite, pain in Xiao Fu or Shao Fu, scant and dark urine.
  • Tongue: Red tongue with yellow and greasy coating
  • Pulse: Soggy and Rapid
  • Treatment strategy: Clear away heat, drain dampness
  • Formula: Zhi Dai Fang
  • Acupoints:

Damp-Toxin Accumulation

  • Symptoms: Yellow and green colour like pus, or mixed red and white or all colours, thick quality, extreme foul smell, pain in Xiao Fu, lower back and sacral regions, bitter mouth, dry throat, scanty and dark urine.
  • Tongue: Red tongue with yellow and greasy coating
  • Pulse: Slippery and Rapid
  • Treatment strategy: Clear away heat, detoxify and remove dampness
  • Formula: Wu Wei Xiao Du Yin
