Definition
The uterus moves downwards from its normal position or even moves out of the vaginal orifice.
Causes and Pathological Mechanisms
Qi Deficiency: middle qi collapses downwards and Chong Ren weakness, failing to control and uphold the uterus (constitutionally weak in middle qi; difficult labour; over-exertion after child birth; long term cough; old age with long term illnesses; long term constipation, etc).
Kidney Qi Deficiency: kidney qi deficiency and Chong Ren weakness, failing to control and uphold the uterus (constitutionally weak Kidney Qi – pre-heaven; multiple child births and too much sexual activity; old age with kidney deficiency).
Patterns
- Symptoms: Uterus moving downwards or sticking out of the vagina, aggravated by exertion, sinking feeling in Xiao Fu, lack of shen, lassitude, short of breath, indolence of speech, frequent urination, with or without profuse leukorrhea, white and thin with a pale complexion.
- Tongue: Pale tongue with thin coating
- Pulse: Moderate and Weak
- Treatment strategy: Tonify qi to uplift the uterus
- Formula: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang plus Zhi Ke, Shan Yao, Qian Shi and Sang Piao Xiao
- Acupoints:
- Symptoms: Uterus moving downwards or sticking out of the vagina, sinking feeling in Xiao Fu, frequent urination, achy and weak lower back and knees, dizziness and tinnitus.
- Tongue: Pale tongue with thin coating
- Pulse: Deep and Thready
- Treatment strategy: Tonify kidney to arrest prolapse
- Formula: Da Bu Yuan Jian plus Lu Jiao Jiao, Sheng Ma and Zhi Ke
