Definition
A condition with bleeding as the main symptom caused by failure of blood to circulate in the vessels and blood discharges through the urine (hematuria).
Causes and Pathological Mechanisms
- Overwork: Heart, Spleen and Kidney impiarments
- Qi Deficiency
- Yin Deficiency
- After febrile diseases and protracted illnesses
- Yin fluid impairments – Deficient Fire
- Blood Stasis – Blood moves out of Essence
Patterns
Lower Jiao heat
- Symptoms: Urination of bright red blood, dark urine with burning sensation, vexation, thirst for drink, flushed face, mouth sores and restless sleep.
- Tongue: Red tongue
- Pulse: Rapid
- Treatment strategy: Clear heat, purge fire and cool blood to stop bleeding
- Formula: Xiao Ji Yin Zi
- Acupoints:
- Symptoms: Scanty urination with blood, dizziness, tinnitus, flushed cheeks, tidal fever, lower back and knee aches.
- Tongue: Red tongue
- Pulse: Thready and Rapid
- Treatment strategy: Nourish yin, reduce fire and cool blood to stop bleeding
- Formula: Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan
- Acupoints:
Spleen failure in commanding Blood
- Symptoms: Protracted urination of blood, pale complexion, tiredness and lassitude, breathlessness, low voice, with or without gum bleed and hematohidrosis.
- Tongue: Pale tongue
- Pulse: Thready and Weak
- Treatment strategy: Invigorate spleen qi to command blood

- Symptoms: Protracted urination of light blood, dizziness, tinnitus, listlessness, lower back and knee aches.
