Denfinition
A range of complicated conditions caused by abnormal emotion and qi stagnation, manifested as emotional depression, irrational mood change and mood swing, with restlessness, irritability, prone to crying and loss of temper, distending hypochondriac pain, stuffy throat as if it was blocked and insomnia.
Causes and Pathological Mechanisms
- Liver and Qi are the main focus points,
- Other related organs are the Spleen, Heart and Kidney
- And Phlegm, Fire, Blood, Shen, Yin and Essence
Patterns
- Symptoms: Feeling of groom and despair, unstable mood, sigh frequently, chest and hypochondriac distending but moving pains, stuffy epigastrium and eructation, stuffy abdomen and poor appetite, with or without vomiting and a irregular menstrual cycle.
- Tongue: Thin and greasy tongue coating
- Pulse: Wiry
- Treatment strategy: Soothe liver, regulate qi and relieve stagnation
- Formula: Chai Hu Shu Gan San
- Acupoints:
Transformation of stagnate qi into Fire
- Symptoms: Very irritable and angry, quick temper, chest and hypochondriac distension, noisy stomach and acid regurgitation, dry and bitter mouth, constipation, with or without headache, red eyes and tinnitus.
- Tongue: Red tongue with yellow coating
