Definition

Contact dermatitis can be divided into two aspects:

  • Direct irritant contact dermatitis: dermatitis caused by exposure to substance which has a damaging effect on the normal barrier function of the epidermis.
  • Allergic contact dermatitis: dermatitis caused by prior exposure to an allergen leading to specific cell-mediated sensitisation.

Pathological Mechanisms

Constitutional intolerance to certain substances (paint, medicine, plastics, dyes, plants etc), evil Toxin invade skin and transform into Heat. Qi and Blood fight with these Toxin in the skin and resulting in the onset of dermatitis.
