GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK, LSE and NYSE: GSK), the second largest pharmaceutical company in the world, plans to research and develop the Chinese traditional medicine, said Ms Amy Huang, president of the Greater China region of GSK, on November 15, 2007.

GSK has been investing in Guangdong and has confidence in cooperation with the province. Presently, GSK is cooperating with Sun Yat-sen University of Guangzhou on developing a new kind of medicine for curing breast cancer.

"I'm astonished at the 40% increase on Chinese traditional medicine export of Guangdong Province. If we can find exact effective ingredients in the Chinese traditional medicine by clinic trial, it will have a greater performance for the Chinese traditional medicine. Furthermore, we have built a research and development center in Shanghai this year." Ms Amy added.

Headquartered in London and with the operating center in America, GlaxoSmithKline Plc, with about 7% share in global pharmaceutical market and more than 100,000 employees, has 82 production bases in 37 countries across the world and achieves an annual output of 4 billion boxes.
